Canadian Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
A delicious, classic concoction, one of the most popular, well-loved treats of our time! After all, these are made with two of the greatest things on earth, chocolate and peanut butter!
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups were invented by Harry Burnett Reese, in 1928. H.B. Reese was actually employed by Milton S. Hershey, not only was Mr. Hershey his boss, the two had quite a close friendship. H.B. Reese was inspired by Milton, and like a good friend he supported and encouraged H.B. Reese in his peanut butter cup endeavour! Of course, Reese would only ever use Hershey's chocolate!
Reese had his hands full, not only the maker of Peanut Butter Cups, but also the father of 16 children! Yes, I said 16! It is said that when he was in his basement experimenting with his delicious creations he would lovingly name them after his children. He never expected his Peanut Butter Cups to explode the way they did, he was just trying to provide a little extra income for his family.
Sadly, just a few days before his 77th birthday, Reese died unexpectedly of a heart attack. Unfortunately, he would not live to see the immense success of his creation. Seven years after his death, six of his children decided to sell the company. The Hershey's Chocolate Company, which had always inspired him, bought the Reese's company for $23.5 Million. Today those numbers would be approximately $20 Billion!
Starting from humble beginnings, in his very own basement, H.B. Reese was one very determined entrepreneur. He never gave up on his dream, and I must admit I have reaped the benefits of his Peanut Butter Cups my whole entire life! Thank you, Harry Burnett Reese!
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are counted as one of the most popular chocolate treats in North America, and have also become increasingly popular all over the world!
